Committed to Freedom challenges the conventional image of the “criminally insane” as a world defined by high fences and dangerous people hidden from view. Instead, the film approaches treatment as a difficult human journey towards autonomy: gradually moving the boundaries from the outside to the inside.

Built from extensive interviews with clients and staff at FPC De Rooyse Wissel, the film deliberately avoids the visual language of crime. Identities are obscured without dehumanising people, making clients and staff at times almost indistinguishable. The result is a portrait of rehabilitation built around responsibility, trust and shared humanity.
